The story happens when Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones were in town for a concert in the early 60′s. Mick was killing a little time by browsing in Excelsior stores. Mick was standing in line in the Excelsior drug store with Mr. Jimmy, when Mick asked for a cherry soda. The storekeeper informed him that they were all out. Mr. Jimmy turned to Mick and said, “You can’t always get what you want.”

Let’s get down to the ascertainable facts. Excelsior is a small town located along MN 7 just about 20 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. This town enjoys one of the most scenic stretches of Minnetonka lakeshore. This town is all of one square mile and 2,397. Somehow, the town manages to retain an old world charm. There is no doubt that the local shops, community festivities, and steamboat trips to and from Wayzata play a part in preserving its character. Many buyers purchase Excelsior MN real estate because they are attracted to the boutiques, shops, park, and lakefront.

Currently, on the Minnesota MLS, there are 34 single family homes for sale, at an average asking price of $682,498, and an average year built of 1954. Right now, the MLS says that there are only half a dozen Minnesota luxury homes for sale over $1M. But it doesn’t matter. You probably get to buy only one, anyway. But would a majestic estate on two or three hundred feet of prime Minnesota lakeshore on Lake Minnetonka fit the bill? If you treat the sellers right, they might even throw in a nice view of Halsted Lake to boot. I wonder if they will throw in that boat lift or dock? We can ask. If you call right now, you might still be able to look at a 7000 square foot mansion proudly parked on a two acre estate, all for under $2M. We know where the best ones can be found.

Lakeshore Real Estate on Lake Minnetonka

Excelsior lake homes are found in the form of three condos and four single family homes, two of which are under $1M. If you find them on Red Cedar Point or King’s Point, that’s a bonus.

If you have to work for a living, town homes or condos might be a more feasible way to enjoy lakefront. Check out condos on Lake Minnetonka waterfront. The market is rather tight for them, but we might be able to scare up something under 500k.
