Walleye Ice Fishing in Lake Minnetonka

“Last call for walleye!” Last chance for Walleye ice fishing in Lake Minnetonka
Do you want to catch walleyes in Lake Minnetonka? You better hurry! We call this “late ice.” It’s getting towards the end of February and the fun is over soon. You are running out of time. No more walleye ice fishing in lake Minnetonka for you. Wait much longer, and the walleyes may be nibbling on you!
Do you want to know how to do it. ? Just ask Kirby Ellingson, of Kirby’s Bait in Mound, MN. Kirby’s the expert. He’s got the knowledge, the bait, and the gear you need.
According to Kirby, the walleyes are hitting on jigging spoons and fatheads. Expect an evening bite. Your best time is between sundown and an hour past sundown. Try thirty feet of water, near mid-lake humps.
In other fishing news, crappies are currently most interested in glow-jigs, waxworms, and crappie minnows. Dinner time for crappies coincides with dinner time for walleyes. If you are out on Lake Minnetonka ice looking for walleyes, you might as well bring something for the crappies. Also, northerns are being pulled out, especially by folks who are putting sucker minnows under tip-ups close to weeds.

Kirby has the best bait on Lake Minnetonka!
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,
I live on Gray’s Bay on Lake Minnetonka and spend lots of my time on the lake all season long. I love to walk the dogs, skate, swim, fish, water-ski and enjoy all aspect of the lake. I take pride on keeping it clean and always pick up trash when I see it.
My favorite time is walking on the lake almost every day during the winter months with my two yellow labs. As I walking my labs they are being labs sniffing and hunting for the next best smell they can find. They always seem to pick up on the fishing holes (Auger holes) as they can always find something there. It disappoints me to frequently find trash, beer/pop cans and fast food containers right near the holes. It really bothers that there are people out there that really don’t care about keeping our lakes clean for the next generation. Are they really that oblivious and ignorant? Don’t we want our children and their children to be able to enjoy the lakes like we do?
Don’t get me wrong! I’m an avid “fisherwomen” and have been fishing my whole life. I LOVE seeing all the fish houses and people enjoying the winter months on the lakes but, it pains me to think they are not respecting our beautiful lakes and water ways. PLEASE KEEP OUR LAKES CLEAN AND PICK UP YOUR TRASH! I know most of you feel the same way I do and hope if you see someone not respecting our community to respectively ask them to pick up their mess.
Thanks for reading this.
